Although if the company isn't already plugged into the Deaf culture, I doubt that they will be able to exercise much control over what their own sign winds up being. It's easy to imagine a company creating a sign for themselves that's awkward and/or unnatural to use, simply out of ignorance (or because they're a special snowflake and the rules don't apply to them).
I actually built something similar idea wise just because it seemed like a fun project to play with (http://roofmapper.com). However my implementation was very simplistic in comparison.
That's cool, although I wouldn't rely on the Google map draw tools. It's cool to learn and have personal projects, but advertising yet another data collection tool without a clear idea for where the data is going or if it's even usable seems counter-productive to me, since we have a project like OSM.
Yeah, I probably should have gave it a bit of explanation.
This was actually made for my dad. He is a roofer and needed a quick and dirty way of generating a map of a place. The map can then be printed and to mark locations of leaks and other such information. Getting screenshot straight from google maps etc. was one option, but I feel that my way makes it cleaner and easier to pinpoint exact locations.
The color of the large top banner is killing my eyes but otherwise it seems to work as intended. Did you seed the stories yourself or did you get some actual users to write them?
It's killing your eyes because it's too damn ugly or because it's too bright?
The stories are all from actual users. Family, friends, friends of friends, etc.
This article hits really close to home. After graduating college and getting a job in biotech I quickly realized that I don't want to spend next 30years in front of a lab bench, dealing with FDA etc. so I have been learning to code. starting with Django (i knew some Python beforehand) then I realized I need some javascript, jQuery, git, MySQL. The only difference is that I love it. Each technology provides something that blows my mind.
My experiment started in May and is going while I'm holding on to my lab job. By October I hope to have a portfolio going, I have two apps ready. I really hope it will all pan out.
