Is this just more Tesla hype? I haven't got access to the original Business Insider article and the 1bn EUR number looks incredibly spurious to me.
If you follow the links back it's all about the European Battery Innovation project which, if it didn't include one of the world's largest manufacturer's of batteries wouldn't be very clever.
The whole project is 2.3bn EUR and if GER, let alone Tesla got 1bn of that I'd be very surprised.
I also have to say that despite how cruddy EU funding projects are (and they are)_- it's not just money that Tesla gets. They have to do a project and the project won't be business as usual.
