I thought that there were at least some circumstances where caning would happen in lieu of a prison sentence but it looks like I'm wrong.

TIL: In Singapore parents can declare their children "beyond parental control". From that point the government will take care of their behavior.

Has there ever been any studies on caning + prison and whether it has any efficacy in reducing recidivism in Singapore vs. just prison?
