When you make universal rules and then carve out narrow exceptions for particular enemies, it completely kills any credibility that you’re adhering to principles.

You can be up front with your intentions and say “you may wish death upon state enemies but never upon our own leaders or allies” or you can get brownie points for saying “we don’t condone violent posts at all” then renege on that when it’s convenient.

It will be difficult to walk this one back. The next time they’re in Congressional hearings saying “we take a strong stand against violent and hateful content”, you know that you can safely disregard that.

the leaders of the West are so bad at their jobs of keeping the West safe. the old leaders knew not to push Russia into a corner, considering they got nukes. for example, they made sure the fall of USSR was not too chaotic. the leaders we got now all read from prompters and have no sense of strategy. not only they didn't prevent this war (which I'm sure they could by cutting some deals), now they put gas on the fire on this war in Europe and expect we will all get out safe and only Russia will get hurt? madness.

I’m pretty sure current western leaders are blaming themselves for having been too complacent with the Kremlin 30 years ago. Sadly it appears they have grown the wiser, and are ready to sacrifice somewhat their status quo (and even more lives) to achieve such goal.

And besides the “New Normal” (eg carbon footprint reduction) was always a tough sell, until now.

I can't help wonder if allowing your platform to call for violence against Russians makes you an active combatant in the eyes of the Kremlin and a valid target for cyber attacks. Not that I would shed a single tear if a cyber battalion of Boris Bad-guys knocks Facebook and all of their properties off of the internet, to green-light calls for violence is to green-light reprisals. I'm guessing the folks at Facebook didn't think this through in the slightest.

Well they're fine with all the violent racist threats I still see of all sorts of right wing / libertarian nonsense so I'm not sure that every stopped
