I think the idea is Uti, non abuti (use, but don't abuse). Counter-counter (sic) examples are not-so-funny meme pictures and emojis. Emojis have gotten so ridiculous in terms of illusion of communication that we have entire websites about their supposed meaning [1].

I don’t believe that is what the author is saying:

If anything, the author’s argument explicitly allows meme images and emoji.
