Last night he said the Twitter office would be locked until Monday. This morning he tells everyone to be there in person this afternoon anyway. Then sends a follow-up email encouraging remote employees to fly into SF today on just a few hours notice. And he said it may take until midnight (on a Friday) to talk to everyone.
Also, didn't they already do the "print out the last 6 months of your code to prove yourself" thing once before like... only a week ago? What new info do they expect to come from this?
He said 2pm to midnight. That’s 600 minutes of interview time to cover all remaining engineers. Those lower estimates of remaining employees start to look a little more plausible. Even with a ridiculously brief 2min assessment, he could only cover 300 engineers
Is this a joke to him to play with people's mental health? How can people fly or commute or travel to SF on short notice. People have families, kids, personal commitment and lives out of the show he is running.
Even if someone is the most brilliant engineer with the best solution to requirements it does not necessarily means they have 10k lines of code solving hard leetcode to please him.
I feel for everyone living through these hard times.
Having worked around some folks similar to Elon, they literally do not think family etc matters and since for them there is a small army taking care of everything like child care and so on, they assume it is similar for other people. This is another reason, young people are preferred in hiring, no other commitments means they do not have to plan around anything like spouse or kids or old parents and so on.
There is an SMS text that was leaked as part of discovery for the merger that did quote something like "sharpen your knives boys" which seemed to be in reference to the mass purge. This tone seemed to lack empathy for the disruption this was going to cause in people's lives.
