Historically there was a view that spreadsheets don’t count as programming because they are not Turing-complete (ignoring VBA). With the addition of Excel’s LAMBDA function, this is no longer true.


I’m not sure you even needed lambda.

There’s a little known feature to enable circular references in Excel. This gives you iterators and recursion.

There are also named references in Excel which the article overlooks in its comparison to “true” programming languages.
