X.com has a setting to mute keywords

X.com has an amazing feature I wish Facebook had... The ability to mute certain words so you never see stuff about them.

I added Bitcoin, celebrities, and sports stuff as I am not interested in that. I also used it to block certain political words for a limited time to give me a break from the topic of the moment.

I don't know if this was a Musk addition, but that's one of the few good things I've heard about new Twitter lol. I guess they realized the format of the website required people to be able to better self-segregate; a real challenge for sites without clear borders across communities like Reddit has.

Bluesky puts the algos and moderation in the users hands, giving everyone their own choice rather than a one-size fits all approach. They have built real competition on a social media fabric into the ATProtocol, meaning users have a very low to non-existent switching cost.

re: moderation, the more interesting feature is stackable moderation

The Twitter feature to mute by phrases existed for at least 10 years.

You could even use that feature to have all kinds of annoyances vanish, by muting suggest_activity_tweet, suggest_activity_retweet and a dozen or two more keywords. There were lists floating around which words you had to mute.
