Adjusting for inflation that's ~$91, if any had a profit motive rather than an ideological one, perhaps they supplemented it by looting from victims...



Easy to say that now but during war and times of rationing, there are many desperate people..


While the occupation was certainly affecting civilians, these events were 1943, before the famine at end of 1944.
