The article talks about taking control of a Jeep Cherokee yet the captions shows a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Does anyone know if the exploit is across the whole line with U-Connect? I plan on purchasing a Grand Cherokee but I may wait and see how this plays out (or get an older model).

I owned a grand cherokee for a few years. Can I offer my unsolicited advice? Don't do it.

Things I had go wrong: - Brake rotors, replace THREE times at $600 each, all before 100k miles. - Uneven wear on the tires due to incorrect braking (see above). - Tail lamp that went out over a dozen times. Another known issue. - Overheating in traffic after less than 30k miles with no real stress on the engine. The mechanic could never find that issue. - I got out when the truck was running to close the back door because I didn't close it hard enough. The car locked me out and I had to call a locksmith to get it open. It was running the whole time.

And I'm sure I could think of more, those are just the ones that stand out. Seriously though, go read on a owners forum about them and then decide. I don't usually trounce products, but this one burned me. A $30k waste of money and time. I ended up getting rid of it, at a huge loss.

Thanks for the advice, I have seen lots of GCs with head and tail lights out on the road.

What year did you have?

It was a 2006, so it was a while ago. Maybe they've improved a little, I would just make sure you due the "background check" on that model.

If it's related to the article from the other day, then yes;

It appears that they're gaining access via UConnect, which is connected to TMobile's cell phone network. Allegedly, this exploit makes it vulnerable from anywhere that the vehicle would have TMobile cell coverage.

Sprint!

(It is mentioned in the terms: http://www.driveuconnect.com/terms/ )

This one is not a cellular hack, this is an exploit using DAB radio as the bearer.

Though you may be able to pull the SIM. My Audi came with T-Mobile coverage and the SIM is behind a door in the center console (which I yanked, turns out Goole Earth over 3G isn't a very good nav system).
